Festivalul Internațional de Foarte Scurt Metraj – Le Festival des Très Courts
In România, Ungaria și în Republica Moldova organizatorul este reprezentat de Centrul Cultural Francez Cluj-Napoca, instituție a Ambasadei Franței in România, cu sediul la adresa Str. IC Bratianu, nr. 22 Cluj-Napoca.
O ocazie unică pentru a pune în valoare creaţiile audiovizuale autohtone.
Se va prezenta, în afara proiecţiei filmelor din competiţia oficială identică pentru fiecare oraş din lume, o selecție specială de filme românești întitulată «Around the Très Courts », care va cuprinde aproximativ 15 filme foarte scurte făcute de realizatori amatori sau profesioniști.
Încurajarea şi promovarea creaţiilor audio-vizuale locale sunt o prioritate a festivalului: invitaţia la participare este lansată în toată ţara. În fiecare oraş, spectatorii votează pentru Premiul Publicului.
Toate genurile sunt reprezentate: filme video, animaţii, imagini de sinteză, ficţiuni, documentare, filme realizate cu telefonul mobil. O singură condiție se impune: durata de maxim 3 minute.
Se pot organiza proiecții până în data de 21 iunie 2010.
Festivalul filmelor de foarte scurt metraj, care reuneşte publicul din diferite zone ale lumii la aceeaşi dată, în jurul unui program internaţional identic, devine astfel un eveniment unificator de tip inedit.
Selecționare:
Filmele vor fi reunite la Cluj-Napoca. Un juriu de specialitate va realiza selecția finală.
Juriul va fi constituit din profesionişti din domeniul audiovizualului, profesori ai şcolilor şi universităţilor din domeniu, jurnalişti, reprezentanți ai organizatorilor locali din anumite oraşe participante, un reprezentant al Orange, sponsorul festivalului, un reprezentant al serviciului audio-vizual al Ambasadei Franței în România, un reprezentant al BRD, sponsor al festivalului în Cluj-Napoca.
Deciziile juriului sunt definitive si nu se acceptă contestații.
Centrul Cultural Francez îşi păstrează dreptul de a modifica structura juriului.
Filmele selecționate la nivel național vor constitui programul « Around the très court » și vor fi difuzate în toate orașele din România care participă la festival.

În perioada 10 aprilie – 31 decembrie 2010, participantul acordă cu titlu gratuit Centrului Cultural Francez Cluj-Napoca dreptul de difuzare a filmelor sale participante în Festival pe următoarele pagini internet :

10 Great Horror Films You’ve Probably Never Seen

Being a fan of horror, I thought it is high-time I showed some love for the genre on this site. Horror films are great because they appeal to our most base natures, but also because they are allowed to be as loopy and imaginative as they want… well, at lest they used to be. These days, imagination has been replaced by lots of gore and cheap ‘jump-out-of-your-seat’ shocks. Horror films no longer follow you home and haunt your dreams in the stillness of the night. So, here are ten great horror films that you’ve probably haven’t seen. They will provide you with a much needed antidote to the remake-hell that we are stuck in today. More importantly, each one of these films is very imaginative and will provide you with the nightmares you’ve been “lacking”.
10. I, Madman
This twisted gem from the eighties owes a lot to Freddy Krueger, but is also original and creepy in its own way. Jenny Wright (Near Dark) stars as a mousy book worm who discovers a very strange novel in the back of the used book store where she works. The dimestore paperback is called “I, Madman” and tells the story of a lunatic scientist who falls in love with a beautiful woman. The woman tells him she can’t stand the sight of his face, so he begins to slice it off piece by piece and replace it with the skin of his many victims. As Wright continues to read, events from the novel begin to happen in her real life and she starts seeing a strange man, dressed all in black and carrying a scalpel, everywhere she goes. The movie is creepy, but also great campy fun. It knows how silly it is and flaunts it. It also has much more fun with the premise of books coming to life than the much later, bigger budgeted In the Mouth of Madness from John Carpenter. The finale of the film is as wicked as it is hilarious and makes great use of classic stop-motion animation. From Hungarian director Tibor Takács.
9. Sauna
This Finnish horror film moves at a deliberately slow pace, but is unsettling as all hell. It takes place in the 1400′s and tells the story of two Finnish brothers who have just finished fighting a twenty-five year war with Russia. With the war over, they are tasked with meeting up with some Russian allies and mapping out the new border between the two countries. However, before they begin this task, the brothers commit an atrocious crime that I cannot reveal here. Once they begin mapping out the border, they come upon a remote village that has a sauna right in the middle of the woods. The villagers tell them that the sauna can wash away their sins ‘without the presence of god’. Naturally, the two brothers step inside and begin to be haunted by ghosts and demonic images that may or may not be in their own heads.
This movie deals quite nicely with themes of guilt, redemption, religion and what it means for a man to no longer have a purpose in life. One other unique thing about the film: it takes place almost entirely during the day and shows that the safe light of day can be as deceptive as the night.
8. Q – The Winged Serpent
Q really feels more like two films. One film is a rather average giant-monster police-procedural with David Carradine and Richard Roundtree playing detectives on the hunt for an ancient Aztec monster called Quezoctaol that is decpaitating and eating a lot of Chicago residents. It’s a so-so monster movie in the tradition of Godzilla.
Michael Moriarty’s performance is nothing short of magnificent. He should have won an Oscar. It’s the only film I’ve seen where a single performance makes the entire thing worth watching. So, when you watch this one remember that the ‘Q’ is for Quinn, the main character, not Quezoctoal.
7. God Told Me To
This movie actually shares the same writer-director as Q, b-movie mogul Larry Cohen. Cohen is most known for It’s Alive, about a monstrous baby, but Q and this film are really special. Originally titled Demon, it stars Tony Lo Bianco as a New York detevctive investigating a series of random murders for which 
all the culprits make the same claim when asked why they did it: ‘God told me to’. Now, that’s creepy enough, but is really just the icing on the cake. Cohen throws in religious cults, kinky sex, the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ, and space aliens. Not everything works, but you got to give the man points for ambition. I also believe that the blueprint for The X-Files was created with this film.
Also noteable: this is the first actual film appearance of Andy Kaufman, something Man on the Moon failed to mention.
6. 13 Tzameti
This Georgian thriller can best be described as ‘Saw without the bullshit’. It concerns a young man who begins work as a carpenter for a real estate tycoon. After the job is done, the tycoon dies and our young hero is unable to get paid. So, he steals a secret invitation to a a special ‘game’ that the old man had recieved in the mail. The invitation gives very complex 
directions on how to get to the secure location of the game. Half the film is a great mystery asking just what the game is and who controls it. The other half is the payoff where you find out what the game entails. I can’t tell you exactly what that is, but I can say that it’s far more creepy and intense than a thousand of Jigsaw’s traps.

Kontroll – a must see movie!

Kontroll is a Hungarian comedy-thriller released to theatres in 2003.
A tale about a strange young man, Bulcsú, his fellow inspectors, who are all without exception likeable characters, a rival ticket inspection team, and racing along the tracks… And a tale about love.
Shown internationally, mainly in art house theatres, the film is a darkly comic thriller set in a Hungarian Metro system.
“Kontroll” in Hungarian refers to the act of ticket inspectors checking to ensure a rider has paid their fare. The story revolves around the ticket inspectors, riders, and a possible killer.
The film was written and directed by Nimród Antal (Predators) and starred Sándor Csányi, Zoltán Mucsi and Csaba Pindroch. The film was entered in a number of film festivals in Europe and North America. It won the Gold Hugo Award at the Chicago International Film Festival and was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.
Actor Lajos Kovács, who plays a minor role in Kontroll, is internationally known for Radiohead’s “Karma Police” music video.
The main character of the story is Bulcsú (Sándor Csányi), who spends his life working in the Metro system, checking tickets. He eats and sleeps underground and never sees the sunlight. He is a member of a ticket inspector team (the others are played by Zoltán Mucsi, Csaba Pindroch and Sándor Badár). His team struggles to check riders’ tickets because people resent them. Among the ticket inspectors on the same shift there is a conflict between Bulcsú’s team and another team. Bulcsú is challenged to “rail running” by this other team’s leader. “Rail running” is an event similar to the running of the bulls. Once the last passenger train leaves the station, the contenders must run through the tunnels and exit before the last ‘express’ train, which does not stop at any station. Bulcsú exits the tunnel first with his opponent close behind. Bulcsú pulls the opponent off the track just in time to prevent the train running over him.
While Bulcsú is on a ticket inspection, he meets a woman, Sofie (Eszter Balla), who is dressed as a bear and never buys a ticket for the metro. Bulcsú falls in love with Sofie, and later he discovers that she is the daughter of his good friend Béla (Lajos Kovács), a metro driver (the family of public transport workers don’t need to buy tickets in Hungary). Béla drinks; he used to drive trains on the surface until he crashed a train due to “lack of braking distance”.
Deaths start occurring in the Metro, with passengers and bystanders seemingly leaping into the path of the oncoming trains. At first the characters think the victims are suicidal jumpers. The audience, however, and later Bulcsú see that the deaths are caused by someone, or something, pushing each victim onto the tracks right before a train comes. The identity of the murderer is never known and is seen only as a quickly moving hooded figure.
When Bulcsú is chasing a troublesome passenger, nicknamed “Bootsie” (in Hungarian, the name of this character is “Roadrunner” as in the cartoon character), the murderer pushes Bootsie in front of a train. Bulcsú is suspected of the crime, which leads to him quitting his job. While brooding and in despair he is attacked by the murderer. He has to run for his life on the rails. In the end, the train apparently hits the murderer, and Bulcsú leaves the underground hand in hand with Sofie. Every staircase of the escalator is moving upwards.

Shorts Up! – Noaptea Lungă a Filmelor Scurte

Scurtmetrajele anului 2010 se aliniază la Start sâmbătă, 19 iunie, ora 20.00, pentru maratonul Noaptea Lungă a Filmelor Scurte. Programul complet al filmelor poate fi văzut aici

Noaptea Lungă a Filmelor Scurte are loc concomitent la București, Cluj, Timișoara și Iași.
La București, evenimentul are loc la Teatrul Național, Galeriile Artexpo. Începe cu o oră de muzică și videoclipuri Massive Attack (între 20.00 si 21.00). Cu această ocazie va fi și un concurs prin care cei care completează chestionarele de feedback pot câștiga invitații la concertul Massive Attack din 27 iunie și cd-uri cu Heligoland, cel mai recent album al trupei.
De la 21.00 începe maratonul de scurtmetraje. Sperăm că mai aveți antrenament de anul trecut, căci timp de 9 ore vor rula filmele, cu trei pauze de câte 10 minute. Pe lângă cele 5 săli de proiecție (4 în interior și una afară, pe terasa TNB), va mai exista și o zonă lounge, cu fotolii asigurate de Grolsch. La baruri vor fi gustări și răcoritoare pentru toată noaptea.
Cu ocazia Nopții Lungi, câteva dintre cele mai cool “ateliere” din București vor etala un mic târg de produse handmade.
Biletele oferă acces la întreg programul Nopții Lungi și pot fi cumpărate în avans prin Eventim sau la fața locului, înainte de eveniment, începând de la 19.30 până târziu în noapte. Preț: 25 ron.
Sziget Fesztivál!

The Sziget Festival is one of the largest music and cultural festivals in Europe. The festival is held annually in August in Budapest, Hungary and takes place on Óbudai-sziget (“Old-Buda Island”), a leafy island of 108 hectares (266 acres) on the Danube, thus Sziget stands for Island. Currently it boasts more than 1000 performances each year…
Every year thousands and thousands, mainly the young generation come to Budapest in the middle of summer.

Anticariate sau cărți second hand?

Anticariatele clujene sunt tratate mai mult ca muzeele în ultima perioadă. Nu pentru că au piese rare și valoroase, ci din cauza atitudinii clienților, care vin, se uită și pleacă.
Deși la prima vedere pare o afacere profitabilă, proprietarii acestora recunosc cu regret că au scăzut vânzările.
“Incredibil, dar anul trecut în aceeași perioadă vindeam și de patru ori mai mult, chiar dacă pe stradă era șantier și numai cei curajoși pășeau pe aici. Acum vindem doar de câteva zeci de lei pe zi”, a spus Gheorghe Copaciu, directorul Editurii Eta, proprietarul anticariatului de pe Bulevardul Eroilor, numărul 48.
De vină nu ar fi prețurile, deoarece acestea încep de la 3 lei și cea mai scumpă carte costă 12 lei. Cât despre cărțile care, într-adevăr, sunt vechi și demne de anticariat, acestea nu se prea găsesc în anticariatele clujene pentru că nu există cerere pe piață.
“Am cărți și din 1850. Se întâmplă rar, dar mai primim și din acestea, mai valoroase. Ce ați văzut afară sunt cărți second-hand. Acestea nu le pot pune acolo pentru că nu am piață pentru ele. Nu le cumpără nimeni la prețul pe care îl merită și ar fi păcat să le pun prețuri mici pentru a fi cumpărate”, a mai spus Copaciu.
La alte anticariate, cărțile valoroase pot fi achiziționate la comandă.
“Cea mai scumpă carte este Coranul vechi, de peste o sută de ani, care costă 350 de lei. Vă dați seama că nu o ținem aici, chioșcurile se sparg mai mereu, dar dacă cineva este interesat îi putem aduce pe mâine. Avem aici o editiț veche a Noului Testament, la 150 de lei. În rest, cărțile sunt ieftine, încep de la 3 lei”, a spus un alt anticar.
Cărțile care, totuși, se mai vând în anticariatele clujene sunt mai mult cele din domeniul beletristicii.
Aplauze prelungite pentru premiera Orfeu în Infern

În ciuda concurenţei puternice din oraş, film (Festivalul TIFF) şi muzică rock (Napoca Music Event), şi a conflictului intern, dintre conducere şi sindicate, care a estompat promovarea evenimentului, spectatorii fideli ai operei au asistat în număr covârșitor la ultima premieră.
Orfeu în Infern
Câteva sute de spectatori au asistat la premiera “Orfeu în Infern”, de Jacques Offenbach, pe un libret de Hector Cremieux. Aceştia au plecat încântaţi de muzica, decorurile, dar şi de intrigă şi dialogurile spumoase.
Cancanul la propriu şi la figurat abundă pe scenă, balerinele fiind unul din numerele gustate de publicul numeros. În esenţă a fost vorba de una din marile dileme ale umanităţii, adulterul. Orfeu, un violonist celebru nu poate accepta să fie părăsit de Euridice, consoarta infidelă şi porneşte în infern să o readucă pe pământ, din ghearele zeilor decişi să o cucerească pe frumoasă pământeană. Orfeu reuşeşte să înduplece zeii, cu ajutorul opiniei publice, dar este înfrânt de şmecheria lui Jupiter, zeul ploii. Euridice rămâne o simplă bacantă în lumea zeilor.
Regia artistică este semnată de Mihaela Bogdan, scenografia de către Valentin Codoiu, coregrafia de către Roland Podar, iar conducerea muzicală a fost asigurată de Adrian Morar.
Festivalul multicolor – Iaşi

Acesta este un festival de muzică şi film în aer liber organizat de Iniţiativa Erasmus Iaşi, cu scopul de a promova 10 Culturi întâlnite atât în mediul academic ieşean, în amfiteatrele celei mai vechi universităţi din ţară, cât şi în mediul extra-academic.
Un exemplu de interculturalitate, Festivalul Multicolor doreşte să promoveze cele 10 culturi şi, în special, muzica şi filmul acestora, prin activităţi adresate tuturor oamenilor pasionaţi de expediţii culturale.
Primul eveniment de acest gen la Iaşi, Multicolor este construit în jurul conceptului de comunicare multiculturală. De aici şi numele, o trimitere veselă la diversitate şi armonie.
Toate activităţile se vor desfăşura în aer liber, tocmai pentru a facilita accesul la aceste culturi unui număr cât mai mare de persoane…
Fiecare zi de eveniment va fi dedicata uneia dintre cele 10 ţări. Astfel, în timpul zilei, muzica specifică respectivei ţări va fi difuzată atât pe Strada Lăpuşneanu, cât şi în Parcul Copou, iar seara, în parc, începând cu ora 20 şi ora 21, va fi proiectat un film aparţinând acelei culturi, acţiunea luând forma unui cinematograf în aer liber.
De asemenea, pentru a completa universul fiecărei culturi, în Galeriile Anticariat “Dumitru I. Grumăzescu” şi în Librăria-cafenea Avant-garde din Iaşi vor fi amenajate standuri speciale în care vor fi expuse cărţi ale autorilor din “ţara zilei”, precum şi imagini.
Ţările participante la festival sunt: Portugalia, Germania, Rusia, Franţa, Italia, Belgia, Spania, China, Ucraina, România.

Spectacol special “Dracula” la Opera Română Cluj

Urmăriţi în premieră naţională un spectacol de operă, „Dracula”, la Opera Română din Cluj, în cadrul Festivalului Internaţional de Film Transilvania (TIFF).
Premiera are loc miercuri şi urmăreşte marcarea a 130 de ani de relaţii diplomatice româno-americane. Cinefilii pot urmări cfu această ocazie muzica interpretată special în cadrul peliculei „Dracula” produsă de Universal în 1931, cu Béla Lugosi, compusă de Philip Glass. La Cluj va interpreta Cvartetul Arcadia, compus din Anna Bogăţilă şi Răsvan Dumitru la vioară, de Traian Boală la violă şi de Török Zsolt la violoncel.

Peninsula – Félsziget

Festivalul Peninsula se apropie vertiginos de schimbarea de prefix, ajungând anul acesta la cea de a VIII-a ediţie! Evenimentul aduce an de an la Tîrgu Mureş nu doar concertele celor mai în vogă artişti, dar şi o serie de programe culturale, sociale şi ecologice care, aşa cum ştiu şi peninsularii, sună mai plictisitoare decât chiar sunt.
Încă de la prima ediţie, din 2003, Peninsula s-a evidenţiat ca un festival total, adică participanţii nu erau aşteptaţi doar seara la concerte, tinerii preferând să se mute, în adevăratul sens al cuvântului, pe teritoriul festivalul. De aici a venit şi porecla lor: peninsulari, adică om care locuieşte la Peninsula. Şi pentru că plictiseala nu este tolerată la Peninsula în timpul zilei, pe lângă o gamă variată de mâncare şi băuturi, vizitatorii noştri au putut alege între zeci de activităţi în aer liber, fie că e vorba de sporturi extreme, vizionare de filme, spectacole de stand-up comedy sau alte programe distractive.
Fiind organizat în toiul verii, peninsularii au posibilitatea de a se răcori, avűnd acces gratuit la ştrandul Complexul Weekend, aflat în imediata apropiere.
În 2003 circa 20.000 de vizitatori au venit la Peninsula pentru a vedea concertele formaţiilor din România şi Ungaria. La cea de a doua ediţie vestea că există un adevărat festival în Ardeal se răspândise deja, astfel că 35.000 de tineri au venit la Peninsula, iar la ediţia a treia şi a patra numărul lor a urcat la 40 – 50.000. Anul trecut au venit aproape 60.000 de persoane la concertele festivalului. Peste 300.000 de persoane au fost atrase de ceea ce a însemnat Festivalul Peninsula de-a lungul celor 7 ediţii precendete.
Dacă la început oferta muzicală s-a limitat la formaţii din România şi Ungaria – majoritatea de talie internaţională, însă – au ajuns, de la ediţie la ediţie, să atragă nume din ce în ce mai răsunătoare. De la Freestylers, Gogol Bordello, Kosheen, The Rasmus, Ferry Corsten, Pendulum, Tiesto, ATB, Parov Stelar, Apocalyptica, Goldie, Morcheeba, Chumbawamba sau Prodigy, artiştii care cântau la festivalurile internaţionale erau prezenţi an de an şi la Tîrgu Mureş.
Mai mult, anul trecut, în premieră pentru România, la Peninsula au concertat cei de la Nine Inch Nails, aflaţi într-un turneu mondial de adio, iar anul acesta e rândul unei alte trupe americane să păşească pentru prima oară în ţara noastră: idolii unei generaţii, regii nu-metalului, Korn vor concerta pe 29 august pe malul Mureşului.

Fanii ServusCluj, comunitatea online de pe Facebook, au demonstrat bogăția lexicului clujean în regionalisme, care i-ar face pe românii din alte părți ale țării să creadă că vorbim o limbă străină. Citynews.ro va prezenta un text compus din cuvintele propuse de utilizatorii celebrei rețele de socializare, într-o limbă aparte, «a la Cluj», însoțit de traducerea de rigoare pentru cei care nu înțeleg în totalitate mesajul. Pentru a putea fi ințeles in totalitate, a fost nevoie, însă, de diacritice:
No fain îi mă ocoşule să şăzi tătă zîua la oblăcău ca un techergheu cu ulcica de beroasă între mânuri şi să te uiţi la troagării de pă floaşter. Că numa’ pierzi vremea cu hraşpalăii şi cioflingarii tăi ăia dubaşi şi ardeţi ghiufele să vă aprindeţi bagăul. Aşe chiar nu să mai pote, musai să faci şi tu ceva, batăr să cureţi nişte picioci, să inghiţim şi noi ceva că mintenaş să face sară, mă blăstămatule. Amu ție las că-i cam ţiclău şi mărg să-mi ieu laibăru’…
